Vaginal Hysterectomy vs. Abdominal Hysterectomy

Vaginal hysterectomyDr. Finkelstein specializes in The Scar-less Vaginal Hysterectomy – Removal of the Uterus / Ovaries / Fallopian Tubes through the Vagina. Dr. Seth Finkelstein has been in practice since 2006 and is currently affiliated with Holy Name Medical Center, Lenox Hill Hospital, and St. Barnabas Hospital. He has board certification both in OBGYN and its subspecialty FPMRS (Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, formerly known as Urogynecology). Highly regarded as a gynecologic surgeon, he is particularly known for his commitment to vaginal approach surgery. He is a co-author of “Advanced Vaginal Surgery”, a surgical textbook whose primary focus is educating gynecologic surgeons on the types of surgical cases typically done through the abdomen that are actually quite feasible via the vaginal route. We currently live in a technological era where the laparoscope and robot garner popular attention for being “minimally invasive”. But the vaginal technique forever remains the most minimally invasive way of all to perform gynecologic surgery, and the surgical approach is most beneficial to patients according to the medical evidence which has consistently demonstrated over many decades its low rate of complications and fast recovery time. Vaginal approach hysterectomy is not only the least invasive and scarless surgical route but an invaluable resource when dealing with patients that are obese, cardiopulmonary compromised, or have had prior surgery such as abdominoplasty that could complicate other surgical approaches. We are successful vaginally overwhelmingly with most cases of complex uterine pathology including fibroids, adenomyosis, and scarring from prior Cesareans. If you are considering a hysterectomy and have not been offered the vaginal approach operation, it is in your best interest to seek a second opinion with our office.
